Together since the summer of 1995, the Acousticats are made up of two exceptional musicians: April Gislason and Tom Lang. They formed as a result of long standing love of their acoustic guitars. Like most musicians, April and Tom started out playing the acoustic guitar. Later they graduated to electric instruments and now have come full circle to the simplicity and elegance of their original instruments. Throughout their careers both have played in a variety of different musical situations which contributes to their wide musical vocabulary.
The combination of their rich vocal harmonies, the sweet sound of the acoustic guitars and some subtle technical wizardry produces a sound that is much more than merely the sum of its parts and must be heard to be believed. "As chair of a fundraiser event for the past three years I have had the pleasure of working with April Gislason for all three years. She is a professional vocalist, who is appealing to a wide range of audiences. She is very comfortable in both large and small venues. She is a regular performer at the Fairmont Empress New Years eve celebration where she plays a big band sound, including jazz, blues and nostalgia. She is very versatile and can perform to younger audiences in venues that, if there is a dance floor handy, it will be full, and even if there is no dance floor people will be up dancing. In this type of venue she can play rock & roll, R & B, or the blues with equal professional competence. Personally, I am very impressed with her stage presence, and ability to engage the audience in her performances.
